First Step

My goal is to improve my teaching to better serve the 21st century learner. As a language teacher, I know that best way to learn a language is to immerse yourself completely in the language. So what do you do when moving to another country is not an option?
Technology!

Technology provides students with the next best thing: a way to interact with native speakers, the ability to read authentic materials, the option to listen to the radio thousands of miles away, the opportunity to watch videos. All these things were not at my fingertips when I began teaching 19 years ago.

  1. How the world has changed...I agree! We started at the same time. I cannot imagine what it holds for my five year old daughter!

  2. Technology certainly allows your classes to become one with the language and the culture of those individuals who speak the language. This is certainly much more beneficial than simply trying to memorize vocabulary and ideas in a language course.

I work with a woman who is an English Language Learners (ELL)Consultant for our agency. She told me that she was going to use Second Life to converse with a man who lives in India and is who is wanting to improve his English. The world is getting flatter as we speak.
